AHA 50th Anniversary History

On 3 July 2023, the AHA launched its fiftieth anniversary commemorative history, authored by valued members Eureka Henrich and David Carment. An ‘Important and Necessary Institution’: A History of the Australian Historical Association examines the formation and endurance of the AHA as an organisation, and traces the key forces and issues that have shaped its activities over the years. It accounts for the many ways in which the practice of Australian history has changed since 1973, but with a keen eye for the challenges and opportunities that have remained constant through the intervening decades. The volume includes a foreword from AHA president Frank Bongiorno (2022-2024) and useful appendices including historical lists of the AHA’s executive committee members, presidents and more.
