The AHA notes the passing of two influential Australian historians and sends condolences to their families:

Neville Meaney (1932-2021) was one of the most influential historians of Australian foreign and defence policy and mentored generations of historians at the University of Sydney and beyond. See James Curran’s piece in history matters.

Peter Howell (1938-2021) passed away in March after a 31-year career at Flinders University. He is probably most well known for his work with the SA Working Party of the Australian Dictionary of Biography that includes an astonishing 46 entries for the ADB. Read David Hilliard’s obituary
