The Australian Historical Association condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine as a breach of international law that has destabilised Eastern Europe and created a grave humanitarian crisis. The AHA supports those involved in aiding those requiring humanitarian assistance. It also sympathises with our colleagues, and their students, working in the history profession in Eastern Europe and elsewhere who have been adversely affected by this conflict, especially with those whose lives are in jeopardy. We call on historians everywhere to continue their critical work in deepening an appreciation of how the past led to the present, and of the grave costs of war, as their contribution towards supporting those seeking peace in the region and the wider world.
