Statue of Joy, East Sydney

In August 2023, the AHA shared notice of the Bring Joy Back campaign and its petition to reinstate the statue, which represented the sex workers who once worked out of the old terraces in East Sydney and Darlinghurst, to its former plinth at the corner of Yurong and Stanley streets in Darlinghurst. In response to advocacy and public interest, the City of Sydney Council have resolved to seek the community’s position on the matter. The Council now welcomes feedback on a proposal to reinstate a replica of the sculpture Joy to the original location in East Sydney.
