Congratulations to Ian Hoskins, winner of the 2023 Frank Broeze Memorial Maritime History Book Prize. Ian won the prize for Australia & the Pacific: A History (NewSouth, 2021). The judges said of the book: ‘It convincingly demonstrates how the geography of the Pacific and its cultures have influenced our climate, society, economy, politics and national identity.’ Ruth Balint and Julie Kalman were highly commended for their 2021 book Smuggled: An Illegal History of Journeys to Australia (NewSouth).
