Congratulations to Lucy Mackintosh and Emily O’Gorman, joint winners of the inaugural Environmental History Book Prize 2023

Congratulations to Lucy Mackintosh and Emily O’Gorman, joint winners of the inaugural Australian and Aoteatoa New Zealand Environmental History Book Prize 2023. The judges were impressed with the ‘new and complex stories of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland as a site of intercultural fluidity and continual making and remaking’ detailed in Mackintosh’s Shifting Grounds: Deep Histories of Tamaki Makaurau Auckland (Bridget Williams Books, 2021). They also found O’Gorman’s Wetlands in a Dry Land: More-than-Human Histories of Australia’s Murray-Darling Basin (University of Washington Press, 2021), to be a ‘superb book’ in which ‘the conceptual categories of culture and nature are blurred and dissolved, and history truly is made anew’. Congratulations Lucy and Emily!
