Congratulations to Kathleen Neal for the publication of The Letters of Edward I: Political Communication in the Thirteenth Century (Boydell Press, 2021). In launching the book, Professors Louise Willkinson (University of Lincoln, UK) and Chris Jones (University of Canterbury, NZ) described it as an important study that sets a new agenda for understanding medieval diplomacy and letter writing, especially how this form could be used to sustain and shape relationships between the king and his allies, and between the king and his own officials and agents.
