AHA Submission to Inquiry into Civics Education, Engagement and Participation in Australia

Recently, the AHA made a carefully considered submission to the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters’ current Inquiry into Civics Education, Engagement and Participation in Australia. Our submission canvassed several key aspects of Australian civics education and awareness as it currently stands, and offered eight recommendations for the Committee’s consideration. These included but were not limited to new curriculum approaches to ‘democracy education’; new opportunities for teacher training through civics microcredential courses; and carefully calibrated, bipartisan public education and awareness campaigns to cultivate a stronger culture of participation in our democratic life. You can read our submission in full on the AHA Advocacy webpage.
