Lost Mines: The Troubled Legacies of Former Mining Landscapes is a project funded by the ARC to investigate how historic gold mining activities have left a toxic legacy of mercury in Victoria. This PhD scholarship is within the field of historical archaeology and will involve collaboration with environmental historians, hydrologists and biogeochemists from La Trobe University, Monash University and the ANU. The candidate will undertake original research on archaeological sites with a focus on locations of gold processing and waste disposal.
