Hey History! is Australia’s first history podcast for the classroom. It dives into key events with immersive, sound-rich storytelling and some of Australia’s top historians and experts. Each episode is driven by kids’ questions about Australian history. The creators recorded in six classrooms in four states and asked children:what questions they had about Australian history;what they knew about topics like First Nations people learning on Country, Captain Cook and the Gweagal people meeting in 1770, convicts, and the Gold Rushes;for their reactions to audio of historical events and more. Each episode follows the Australian and state curriculums for years 4-6, and comes with learning materials, so teachers can use the podcast in class. Hey History! is made Anna Clark and Clare Wright, with producer Jane Curtis (Best History podcast Australian Podcast Awards 2023) and Britta Jorgensen (Bronze award, Australian Podcast Awards 2022) from Impact Studios, in partnership with the Australian Centre for Public History (UTS), La Trobe University, the National Museum of Australia and the NSW History Teachers Association.
