National Library of Australia, Further Information Concerning the Special Collections and Petherick Reading Rooms

As was previously communicated to AHA members through this newsletter, there will be disruptions to National Library of Australia’s Special Collections and Petherick Reading Rooms from Monday 26 August 2024. The NLA has provided the AHA with the following additional information:

The temporary space on Lower Ground 1 will be quite compact. Due to space limitations in the new area, the amount of collection material stored for use by readers will be reduced. Petherick readers will be able to consult 20 filled requests from Friday 23 August. From 17 August, the general collection loan period will reduce from 3 months to 1 month. Each user’s general collection filled requests will be stored on open access shelving, in alphabetical order by last name.

In order to assist with the relocation process, NLA staff are asking visitors not to leave personal belongings in the Petherick pigeonholes, and to ensure that their remaining Special Collections items do not exceed one trolley. Greater detail and informative meeting times can be found on the NLA website.
