The AHA records its sorrow at the passing of Dr Julie Suares. A library technician, farm hand, cook and teacher by trade, Julie graduated with a PhD in History from Deakin University in 2015, a point of pride for her friends and peers in the Ararat community. Julie worked for twelve years as an electoral officer for the division of Ripon in Victoria and served as a consultant for Primary Skills Victoria. Her PhD was published with Melbourne University Publishing in 2019 under the title JB Chifley: An Ardent Internationalist. Reviewing the book, James Curran celebrated this ‘first, sustained intellectual history of this iconic post-war Labor figure’. Julie will be farewelled at Lonergan and Raven Chapel, Clifton Hill on 22 May 2024 at 10.30 am AEST.
