‘Memorandoms by James Martin’

Congratulations to AHA member Tim Causer, who has edited and introduced a new scholarly edition of the earliest Australian convict narrative, Memorandoms by James Martin, the only extant first-hand account of the escape from Australia by transported convicts James Martin, William and Mary Bryant and their two infant children, and six other male convicts on the night of 28 March 1791. The volume includes full colour reproductions of the original manuscripts, alongside a transcript with commentary describing the events and key characters, and can be downloaded for free, or purchased, at the UCL Press website.
